Dps mathura

The first Delhi Public School (DPS) was established in the year 1949 at Mathura Road from where it continues to operate. It started out without a building in tents where classes were held. Nevertheless, it quickly established itself in the 1950s as a leading public school in New Delhi, both academically and in sports, with the student body drawn from the quickly growing populations of Government officials' children and children of the then newly rising Punjabi refugee business community establishing itself in South Delhi. By 1965 the school had moved into a three-story building and by 1970 had a student body of almost 3,000 students enrolled at Mathura Road.

The Rev. (Dr.) J.D. Tytler was the first principal of the School. He was followed by Dr. K.C. Khanna, and then in 1962 by Mr. Din Dayal. Principal Din Dayal led the school into the ranks of the very best schools in the country in the 1960s and 1970s, and it was his vision, formed during his earlier years as a boarding school teacher at Mayo College in Ajmer, and on exchange trips to the United States, that led to the transformation of Delhi Public School into a multi-branch school system uniformly providing the highest quality primary and secondary school education. Under his leadership, finances and governance were greatly strengthened, and the road map drawn to the creation of the many Delhi Public Schools in cities across India and the rest of the World.
